Agriculture drones are often nicknamed as flying bucket sprayers. But in fact they're much more difficult to control. Today, we'd like to share practical guidance of operating an agriculture drone from an experienced pilot.

    Preparing

Before setting out for spraying, we must check all necessary equipment to prevent damaged or missing parts and tools. Make a full list and categorize the responsibilities to different team members. Below is some necessary equipment for spraying for your reference.

    1.    Thick electric cable (with electricity meter) for charging to avoid conflicts with local farmers on electricity consumption.  If necessary, an outdoor generator must be carried.

    2.    Drone parts: drone body, blades, remote controller and its charger, backup battery boards, blade mounting tool set, batteries and
battery charger, BB alarm, WD40, cloth strips, thermometer, walkie talkie, and flags.

    3.    Chemical mixing equipment: mask, glove, funnel, large water bucket, chemical mixing bucket, silk stockings for filtration, stirring stick, scissors, measuring glass and bucket

    4.    Banner, brochures and pamphlet
    Operation
    1.     Safety is the first principal of operating an agriculture drone. Before flying a drone, please check all parts are in good condition, and
after operation please do maintaining to keep the drone in good condition. Please keep away from the crowd and don’t do unnecessary aerobatics. When operate at A-B or manual mode, please keep yourself from the drone at a safety distance. When operating at windward directions, please avoid chemical contact since it drifts far away at windy conditions. Flagman must know clearly about the flying habit of pilot. Hover spraying is strictly forbidden.

    2.     Batteries are quite important for drone flying. Please be aware of electricity volumes of both remote control battery and drone battery. Over discharge is forbidden and please make record of charge and discharge of batteries. Also please add foams in battery case to prevent vibration damaging batteries. When two drones flies alternately, you can temporarily turn off the power of remote controller for the stay-on-ground one. Please instantly shut off power when drones lands to prevent unwanted start. Observe and make plans of flying course for the next flight in advance. Also don’t forget to tell your plans to your flagman.

    3.     Please be aware of that there are huge differences when drones take off at full load. Flying gesture may be affected by load weight, weather conditions (wind), take-off surface (even or uneven), surroundings (like obstacles), lift from drone itself and counteractive air flow from surrounding objects, ground effect,  pilot operation skill, and etc.

    4.     Be aware of ground conditions underneath your feet. Missed or unsteady steps are dangerous. It’s better to arrange walking course to avoid stepping into pits, soft soil, and unclear grassy ground after planning drone flight lines.

    5.     When spraying at field ridges of a long distance, it’s better to walk at the same pace with the drone or a little slower. Watch your steps and avoid the any obstacles while flying the drone. Do not let the drone hover too long.

Hence when flying at complicated conditions, it’s better to take off at even surface with better surroundings when drones are heavily loaded. Further safety distance is a preference. Remember safe take-off to avoid injury and drone crashing is the first priority over flight course, power consumptions and many other factors.

Also please pay close attention to drone flying gestures and practice more to find the best controlling methods to handle with different conditions. Braveness but cautiousness are the two basic qualities to cultivate for flying a drone.
